Affected UMA Versions

This Wiki article refers exclusively to UMA version 3.3.0! For UMA systems from version 3.3.1 onwards, refer to the wiki article Remote E-Mail Accounts.

Initial situation

  • If a TLS/SSL connection of a remote email account fails, an unencrypted connection may have been established as a fallback in previous versions.
  • In version 3.3 of the UMA, the transmission of unencrypted data is not permitted.
  • This leads to emails not being retrieved from some mail server systems.

  • Affected systems

  • Common with Tobit David servers
  • Partly with IBM Lotus Notes
  • Partly with outdated Exchange servers (2010)

  • Solution

    Check the TLS/SSL connection of the mail server and set up proper StartTLS encryption if necessary.

    If it is not possible to configure a correct TLS/SSL connection on the mail server,
    no update to version 3.3.0 should be performed

  • If the update has already been performed, an updae to version 3.3.1 should be performed immedeatly.
    As of version 3.3.1 the connection security can be disabled.
  • Under no circumstances should an immediate rollback be performed
    (During the update, databases are rearranged).
