This article describes how to boot a Securepoint NextGen UTM from a USB stick. This procedure is necessary when a UTM is reinstalled or an update is to be performed.

Preparation

A USB stick with the UTM image is required.
For this, the Securepoint Imaging Tool can be used. (Resellerportal → Menu Downloads → Tools x )
A monitor must be connected to the UTM.
A keyboard must be connected to the UTM
The UTM must be switched off

For devices with only one USB port, a USB hub is required.

Update / Installation

The prepared USB stick must be connected to the UTM.
Switch on the UTM
Start the UEFI BIOS with the Del key
(default key, otherwise pay attention to the screen display)
Adjust the boot order so that the USB stick is in position #1 and the internal hard drive is in position #2.
The other positions should be disabled.
- Tab Boot
- Menu Boot Option Priorities
- Menu Hard Drive BBS Priorities
- Leave the menu with the ESC-key
- In the Boot menu disable all boot devices that are not needed.
Leave the BIOS via Save & Exit with the option Save Changes and Reset.
The UTM now boots from the USB stick
The update / installation is performed
Pay attention to input prompts
Restart the UTM with Strg + Alt + Del

Notes on G3 devices: Black Dwarf / RC100 / RC200

The right time and date are important for communication and services

Switch on the UTM
Under Save & Exit execute Restore Defaults
Check the date and time under Standard CMOS Setup.
- Summer time = -2 hours
- Winter time = -1 hour
Afterwards change the boot order and save the changes.

Notes on G3 devices: RC300 / RC400 / RC1000

Boot without additional network interface modules initial startup

Switch on the UTM
After the UTM has been shut down, additional network interface modules can be installed

Under Save & Exit execute Restore Defaults
Check the date and time under Standard CMOS Setup.
- Summer time = -2 hours
- Winter time = -1 hour
Under Advanced Info Report Configuration set all settings to Disabled
Under Advanced Serial Port Console set all settings to Disabled
Under Chipset PCH-IO Configuration LAN Configuration set all PXE settings to Disabled
Afterwards change the boot order and save the changes.

Note on devices G5: Black Dwarf (v12)

The right time and date are important for communication and services

v12 is mandatory, since the installed MMC is not supported by the UTM v11

When installing/updating via USB stick, use the image first UTM v12.x - Interactive installation UTM Software v12 - USB-Image
(not Autoinstall or Autoupdate)

Switch on the UTM
Under Save & Exit execute Restore Defaults
The USB stick should then be listed at the top of the boot menu of the device, preceded by the TAG UEFI
Execute under Save & Exit Save Changes and Reset
