Previous versions: 11.7

Preliminary remark

Port based routes, also called Policy Based Routing or Rule Routing, are routing decisions that use a predefined rule to decide which gateway to forward packets to based on services, destination addresses or source addresses.

determine which packets should use a specific gateway.

In the

[-] Extras

section, the

Rule Routing

field is used to specify, based on rules, which route (i.e. which gateway) IP packets should take.
In the example opposite, all VOIP packets from the internal network are routed via the interface eth2.

  • The drop-down field only provides WAN interfaces for selection.
If access to the target network (usually the Internet) is via a LAN interface (e.g. eth2), to which a router may be connected, this can be entered manually.
