Preliminary note

Restored files can be either

  • single files, folders or volumes in existing computers
    or
  • bootable images. For this, the backup job must have been configured as a BMR backup (Bare Metal Restore).
The restoration is done under Computer / Choose end user site / Reiter
Jobs

Use total available bandwidth Uses all available bandwidth for recovery.
Volume to be restored
c:\Volume (nnGB) 
Drive letter, name or ID of the volume including size information.
The target volume must be the same size or larger.

Displays a list of all volumes on the computer and their size.
The system partition or volumes that are too small cannot be selected and applied.

Deploying large volumes may take several minutes. Windows Explorer may not respond until the process is complete.


Bare Metal Restore (BMR)

Create Restore Iso Image

To perform a bare metal restore, a restore iso (.iso file) is required.
The Restore Iso is based on Windows PE and additionally contains a recovery software that restores the safe set bootable. This process is started automatically as soon as the system boots into the iso.
This iso must be created by the user, but can then be used for BMR backups for all systems.

  • Download Bootable Media Creator from the Backup Portal download area, Tools section
  • Installing and launching the Bootable Media Creator
  • Download and install Windows ADK
  • Select target directory for .iso file
  • Create Bootable Media Image

BMR restoration

  • Restoration to hardware:
    • Burn .iso file to CD
      or
    • create bootable USB stick
    • Boot hardware from CD /USB stick
  • Restore to hypervisor:
    • Mount .iso as boot drive
  • Select time zone and keyboard layout
  • Start Wizard
  • Enter login credentials for the Vault account
  • Select computer to be restored
  • Select backup job
  • Select safe set to be restored
  • Enter encryption password from backup job
  • Drag and drop the desired drives into the system to be recovered.
  • Display of the summary. Activate checkbox to start restoration
  • Restoration performed successfully
  • The system is restarted with Reboot and the restoration is completed
